Blog tasks: The Times - Language and Representations

 1. Gary Lineker upsetting the BBC with his tweet and was then threatened to be kicked off the team but this led to many sport people in the BBC going on strike. 2. The daily mirror sides with Gary Lineker however the times goes against him and threatens him to kick him off the job. 3.  The front pag e features the typical codes and conventions of a broadsheet in terms of its layout and design . As a broadsheet newspaper, the text to image ratio is high. The Times   masthead   helps to create brand identity. 4.  .The 'broadsheets' are more expensive to purchase, have a smaller circulation, and include more news than the'red tops'. The writing style is different from tabloids, with more pieces providing in-depth analysis and larger words and paragraphs. 5. The Times - Introduction: Blog Tasks

 1. The Times, founded in 1785 as the Daily Universal Register, is the oldest national daily newspaper in the UK and holds an important place as the “paper of record” on public life, from politics and world affairs to business and sport.  2. In his first edition, John Walter I explained that “like a well-covered table, it should contain something suited to every palate” including politics, foreign affairs, matters of trade, legal trials, advertisements and “amusements”. In its tone and political neutrality, Walter reserved the right of the newspaper “to censure or applaud either [political party]” and to cover contending issues with respectful “fair argument”. More than 200 years later, these founding principles hold true today 3.
