The Times - Introduction: Blog Tasks

 1.The Times, founded in 1785 as the Daily Universal Register, is the oldest national daily newspaper in the UK and holds an important place as the “paper of record” on public life, from politics and world affairs to business and sport. 

2.In his first edition, John Walter I explained that “like a well-covered table, it should contain something suited to every palate” including politics, foreign affairs, matters of trade, legal trials, advertisements and “amusements”. In its tone and political neutrality, Walter reserved the right of the newspaper “to censure or applaud either [political party]” and to cover contending issues with respectful “fair argument”. More than 200 years later, these founding principles hold true today

3.The Times has supported both New Labour and the Conservatives in recent times and supported Remain in the 2016 EU referendum.

4.The Sun, The Times and The Sun on Sunday are owned by Rupert Murdoch's News Corporation. The Independent, the i, and The Independent on Sunday are owned by Alexander Lebedev's Independent Print Limited. The Independent is now online only


5.Times Media is now part of News UK. Both papers introduced digital subscriptions in 2010 to help ensure a sustainable future for their journalism.


6.The titles are the biggest-selling quality print newspapers in the UK and in 2018 The Times was named Britain’s most trusted national newspaper by the Reuters Institute for Journalism at the University of Oxford.

7. Both The Times and The Sunday Times have landed some of the industry’s top awards for investigations, foreign reporting, magazine features and interviews. The Sunday Times won Sunday Newspaper of the Year at the Press Awards 2023 and The Times won Newspaper of the Year at the London Press Club Awards 2023.

8. Tony Gallagher (born 2 November 1963) is a British newspaper journalist, and is currently editor of The Times. He was editor of The Daily Telegraph, joint deputy editor of the Daily Mail, and editor of The Sun in 2015, before being appointed editor of The Times in 2022.

Statement Of Intent: I plan to make a 30-40 seconds about an unhealthy person who lives of junk food and doesn't hydrate his body to the standards, but then meets the drink that will twist his life. The beginning of the advert will have a montage of him rotting away with junk food who feels depressed and the overall soundtrack will reflect the scenario.
